______________________
Jacob and Anna raised a sizeable family before moving to North Carolina.
They followed the path of both the German and Scotch Irish settlers of
western Pennsylvania who moved south along the "Great Wagon Road" seeking
affordable land. Records indicate that Jacob was a shoemaker, but land
records, estate papers, will, ect. after he reached this area, show that
farming was his primary occupation in this state. Land was the lure that
encouraged both Jacob and his adult sons to move from Pennsylvania. Early
records indicate that some of his sons may have preceded him here. Two
of his sons, John and Adam fought against the Chicamoga Indians defending
the colony just before the Revolution. Jacob provided supplies for North
Carolina forces and was reimbursed for this according to payment records.
Jacob and his son, John Henry were both patriots in the American
Revolution. Jacob and his wife were Lutherans. Jacob and Adam Geiger
received 100 acres as a land grant for the "German Church" (now the
Nazareth Lutheran Church in Rural Hall. Anna died 12 Oct 1790 and Jacob
died 3 May 1803. They, and at least one son and his wife, are buried at
the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Rural Hall, NC. Jacob has no marker, but
Anna Eva, Henry and Margaretha Zimmerman's grave are marked. Jacob Petree
and Anna Koehulin had 10 children.

The Kirchenbuch (parish register) of the Evangelische Kirche in
Ehrstaedt, Baden, Germany (NE of Heidelberg); 1651-1963, Family History
Library Microfilm #1189149, Item 3-5, first mention George Bernhard
Keuhnlin and his wife Ana Eva in the record of the birth and christening
of Kilian Keuhnlin, b. 7 Jul 1695, chr. 8 Jul 1695.
The christening records of two more sons and three daughters follow:
Johan Georg, chr. 24 May 1698
Charlotte Ruffina, chr. 8 Jun 1701
Johan Pettrus (?), chr. 14 Jan 1704
Maria Sibila, chr. 6 Sep 1706
Maria Elizabetha, chr. 26 Mar 1709
Kilian's marriage is dated Jan 1717, but no bride's name is listed.
Killian next appears in New Hanover, Montgomery Co., PA (Pennsylvania
German Society XX (1909): pg 32-33 as a signer of a statement that John
Henry Sprogel voluntarily gave land that Kilian emigrated to Pennsylvania
between 1717 and 1719, probably with Daniel Schoener in 1717.
Daniel Schoener was born 25 Jan 1686, chr. 27 Jan 1686, also in
Ehrstaedt, Baden, Germany and he married Maria Catharine Horn on 17 May
1707. The Schoener family emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1717 and their
names appear in the Lutheran records in New Hanover township.
Killian's mother, Ana Eva, was probably Ana Eva Schoener, sister to
Daniel, whose christening in Ehrstaedt puts her at the right age, but the
marriage records of the needed years are missing from the Ehrstaedt
parish registers. No mention of the name Kuehnlin appears in the
Ehrstaedt parish registers after 1717, indicating the probability that
the entire Kuehnlin family emigrated with Daniel Schoener. Further
research in the early Pennsylvania Lutheran parish registers may turn up
mention of the Kuehnlin family in SE Pennsylvania.
The Lutheran parish register of Moselem Lutheran Church in Windsor
township, Berks Co., PA shows that Joh. Georg Kuehnlin, son of Kilian
Kuehnlin, married Philippina Schoener, single daughter of Daniel Schoener
on 14 b. Trin. 1745 and the following children were christened there:
Joh Adam, chr. 2 Nov 1748
Johannes, chr. 26 Aug 1750
Maria Catharine, chr. 22 Sept 1753
Heinrich, chr. 6 Nov 1755
In the same parish registers, the marriage of Ana Eva Kuehnlin, single
daughter of Kilian Kuehnlin and Jacob Petri, single son of Nicholai Petri
in Germany is recorded on 29 Sept 1747.
The following children were subsequently christened:
Johanna Kuehnlin, md. Johannes Hill, 7 ch. christened.
Barbara Kuhnlin, md. Jacob Schneider, 1 ch. christened.
Adam Kuhnlin, md. Maria Elisabetha Michlin, 2 ch. Christened
Kilian Kuehnlin's death in Greenwich, PA is noted in the Moselem Lutheran
Church records on 17 Feb 1757 (Moselem Lutheran Church Records, Richmond,
Berks, PA, p. 221, 224, Family History Library Microfilm #385069).
Kilian's will is recorded in the Berks Co. probate records, will Book 1
p, 38 (FHL Microfilm #20723) and mentions sons George, Adam and Henry.
A discussion of Kilian Kuehnlin and further discussion of the Schoener
family can be found in Eighteenth Century Emigrants from German-Speaking
Lands to North America, Vol 1: The Northern Kraichgau by Annette
Kunselman Burgert, pub. by the Pennsylvania German Society, 1983, Family
History Library Book #974.8, B4pgp, v.16.

Alias: John /Bost/
German spelling Baust was born and educated in Germany, born ca.
1718/1720. He migrated to America by 1730 and he was active in the
Lutheran Church of Bucks Co., Pa. from 1740 till the summer of 1754. In
the fall of 1754 he moved his family to Cabarrus county, N. C. He settled
near the town of Concord along the Adams River or Adams Creek, in a
community with other German families. He helped establish the St. Johns
Lutheran Church. The road leading to the church site went through his
land and was known as the John Bost Meeting House Road and traces of the
road still remain. John Bost died in 1777.
John and Susannah Catharine were the parents of 14 children. They were:
William b. 1739, Anna Maria, Leonhardt, Maria Catharine, John, b. 1743,
Elias b. 1747, Margaretha Barbara, Elizabeth, Jacob b. 1753, d. 1830.
George d. 1808, a daughter (name unknown), Dorthy b. 1759, Christina and
Margaret.
According to his will, John Bost was a very wealthy man. He owned many
acres of land, tenements, and slaves. The original will of Johannes Bost
(also spelled Bast) as well as 22 legal sized pages recording the estate
settlement is in the N. C. Dept. of Archives and History. Susannah
Catharina ---- Bost b. ca. 1724/25. She died ca. 1800 in N. C. It is not
known if she was born in Germany or Pa., but it is known that she married
John Bost in Berks Co., Pa. Nothing is known of her parents at this time.
John and Susannah Catharina Bost were the Great great great grandparents
of Charles Scott Chafin.
Note: From information from the Bost family history it is now assumed the
John Petree and Dorothy Bost married in Cabarrus Co., N. C. in 1778, that
the two families were neighbors in Buck Co., Pa., that they migrated to
N.C. about the same time. John Petree was born in Pa. and Dorothy Bost
was born in N.C. That John and Dorothy Bost Petree lived in Stokes Co.,
N. C. until the time of his death and then Dorothy returned to Cabarrus
Co. to live and raise her children on land she inherited from her father.
that she died there after 1830 and before 1840.
Notes from Biography: The Johnannes Bast Family by Mary Pegram West
Johannes Bast was an educated German, a farmer, the father of fourteen
children and all were ardent Lutherans. The first records found to date
are in the History of Old Williams Township Congregation (Lutheran) of
Bucks Co., PA. but now in Northampton County due to county line changes.
Here we find the names of his wife, Susanna Catharina, and nine of his
children. Their church activities are set forth from 1740 until the late
summer 1754.
It is safe to assume that the whole family left PA by early fall 1754 and
came to NC where they settled in this community of many German families.
Johannes secured a land grant on Adams Creek, west of St. John's Church.
Some of his descendants are living there today. Traces of the old John
Bost Meeting House Road remain on the farm even though the road has not
been used for several generations. His land was within walking distance
of the church., Johannes died in late 1777 but Susanna Catharina was
living in 1787. Both must have been buried at St. John's but their grave
stones have crumbled long ago.
