    Supposedly he was Native Indian, no proof of this can be found. Marriage also states he was William H, but census states William S...

    Several state that Mead A Smith was William's father, but I don't think so... in 1850, Mead lives nextdoor to William, Mead is 41 and William in 24... That would make Mead 17 years old when William was born... Also, Mead has a son William, age 16 in the 1850 census... I really doubt Mead A Smith is the father to William S Smith. Could be an older brother or maybe a Uncle to William.

    Supposedly she was full Cherokee... No proof of this yet... Several family trees state she was from Oklahoma and the daughter of John and Mary Catron, but all her census reports state Virginia. I doubt she was from Oklahoma and moved to Virginia in the early 1800's...

    Parents might be John Catron and Elizabeth Musser buried at Saint Paul's in Wythe, VA.
