| 2073 | Ealhmund was King of Kent in 784. The only contemporary evidence of him is an abstract of a charter dated in that year, in which Ealhmund granted land to the Abbot of Reculver. [1] By the following year Offa of Mercia seems to have been ruling directly, as he issued a charter [2] without any mention of a local king. There is a general consensus that he is identical[3] to the Ealhmund found in two pedigrees in the Winchester (Parker) Chronicle, compiled during the reign of Alfred the Great. The genealogical preface to this manuscript, as well as the annual entry (covering years 855-859) describing the death of Æthelwulf, both make king Egbert of Wessex the son of an Ealhmund, who was son of Eafa, grandson of Eoppa, and great-grandson of Ingild, the brother of king Ine of Wessex, and descendant of founder Cerdic,[4] and therefore a member of the House of Wessex (see House of Wessex family tree). A further entry has been added in a later hand to the 784 annal, reporting Ealhmund's reign in Kent. Finally, in the Canterbury Bilingual Epitome, originally compiled after the Norman conquest of England, a later scribe has likewise added to the 784 annal not only Ealhmund's reign in Kent, but his explicit identification with the father Egbert.[5] Based on this reconstruction, in which a Wessex scion became king of Kent, his own Kentish name and that of his son, Egbert, it has been suggested that his mother derived from the royal house of Kent,[6] a connection dismissed by a recent critical review.[3] It has likewise been suggested that Ealhmund might actually have been a Kentish royal scion, and that his pedigree was forged to give son Egbert the descent from Cerdic requisite to reigning in Wessex. | Kent, King of Kent Ealhmund of (I10576)

| 2074 | Earliest spelling of the name was Halbert. This family seems to eventually have used the Holbert spelling, as is shown is numerous records, especially of the later ones. Was in Fentress Co., Tn, by 1827 and in 1830/1840 c ensuses. Moved to Fentress Co., Tenn by about 1827, and settled on Crooked Creek near Little Crab, west of Jamestown. It has been difficult to reconstruct his family. The 1800, 1810 an d 1820 censuses of Knox and Anderson Cos., Tn are missing. By 1830 he had at least one child, Mary, married, and perhaps more than one. By 1850 several children were married and with daughters, it has been difficult to identify them. In 1850, sons Jeremiah and John and daughters Caroline, Elizabeth and Naomi (Oma) were living in Posey Co., Ind. A Jeremiah Barlow in his household in1850, age 5, may have a grandson. A John Barlow, age 27. was i n son John Holbert's household, age 27, in 1850, and in 1860 a Jerry Barlow age 15 was living with John. Also with Joel and Zelphia in 1850 was Mary Bruce , age 7, possibly a granddaughter. The marriage records of Jeremiah, Naomi (called Oma in mar record,) Caroline and Elizabeth are found in Posey Co. Some possible children may be Margaret Mullinix, wife of Nathan Mullinix, in Fentress Co., Tn. Also, Louisa Beaty, wife of Andrew Beaty, living next to Nathan Mullinix in 1850, could possibly be a daughter. Daughters may have married a Barlow and Bruce.
