Notes - Maria was the eldest of six children of Azariah Mathews, a farmer of Ewing and Hopewell Twps., Mercer Co., and Frances 'Fanny' Sebold Mathews.
On Oct. 25, 1862 in Kingwood Twp., Hunterdon Co., New Jersey, Maria married the widowed father of her brother- and sister-in-law, Moses H. Burroughs. They had no children together.
She lived in Hopewell Twp. after her marriage.
Maria died of paralysis after an illness of two weeks.
