      November 6, 1921 - June 28, 2014

      Dr. John Philip Aaronson, D.O., 92 of Myrtle Creek, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Emeritus Manor House in Roseburg, OR.

      No services are planned at John’s request. A gathering of family and close friends to celebrate John’s life will be held at a later date.

      John was born November 6, 1921, in San Francisco, CA. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942, during World War II. He was also attached to the United States Marine Corps, as a Pharmacist Mate, 1st Class, and was honorably discharged in 1947.

      John studied at U.C. Berkley, Gonzaga University, the Medical College of Virginia, and Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, earning his doctorate in 1949. He received his certificate of Anesthesiology in 1953. He practiced medicine for 62 years in Canyonville, Los Angeles, Medford, Central Point, and Eagle Point.

      Other activities John was involved in were the Boy Scouts, Lions Club, and Rotary. John was the President of the Oregon Osteopathic Association from 1977-78, and received a Life Membership Award in 1989 for the American Osteopathic College of Anesthesiologists. He also received the Northwest Osteopathic Medical Foundation Founders’ Award for Excellence in Osteopathic Medicine in 2004.

      Aside from medicine, John’s true passion was music. He played trumpet in numerous bands including Henry Busse’s Band, the Bob Utterback Combo, the Steve Sacco Dance Orchestra, the Dick Johnson Band, and his own 16 piece dance band. He was often compared to the talents of Harry James. He also loved golfing and fishing.

      John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carol; brother, Dr. L. Clarke Aaronson, of Spokane, WA; son, John Jr (Becky) of Lynwood, WA; son, Robert (Rene) of Medford, OR; son, Jerold (Marlene) of Redding, CA; daughter, Michelle Westrum of North Bend, OR; 11 Grandchildren; 15 Great-Grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

      John was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Philip V. Aaronson, D.O.; mother, Zola N. Redden; sister, actress Shirley Deane; and son, James Merritt Aaronson.

      Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Hospice, or the Aaronson Family Scholarship at Crater High School, Central Point, OR.
