Notes - James was a Primitive Missonary Baptist Minister and settled in St. Francois Co., Mo. about 1814. In 1835 he is shown as a founding minister of the Pendleton Baptist Church in Doe Run, St. Francois Co., Mo. He lived there until about 1839, when he moved to Crawford Co., Mo., where he established the First Bethel Baptist Church in Steelville, Crawford Co., Mo. James Ira Halbert's signature appeared on many marriage records and land transactions in both counties.
