SUMMONED AWAY FROM ALL CARE
William N. Hirby Passes Away This Morning After Suffering Long Illness
Mr. William Nicholas Hirby, a prominent grocer of this city, died at the Memorial Hospital this morning. Death was caused by a cancer from which Mr. Hirby had suffered for a number of years.
Two weeks ago he was operated upon. His condition at that time was found so serious that no effort could be made to remove the malignant growth. Mr. Hirby's condition gradually became more and more critical and last evening death slowly overcame him.
On November 16, 1853, Mr. Hirby was born in Tiffin, Ohio. His mother, two brothers and three sisters reside in that city. Twenty-seven years ago, Mr. Hirby came to this city and for a number of years was a most competent workman at the Bentwood. He was united in marriage to Miss Jeannie Dea Fox, of this city and two children were born to them, August Hirby and Mrs. Arthur Marks.
For 18 years Mr. Hirby has conducted a grocery on South Main street. His strict attention to business made it possible for him to build up a most excellent trade.
A month ago Mr. Hirby visited his mother in Tiffin. Up until then, although not in the best of health, he had not considered his condition serious. After returning to Piqua his condition gradually became serious until he realized that at last his case was hopeless.
In fraternal circles Mr. Hirby was ----(cannot be read). He was a member of the Christian Church and took much interest in church work.
Although funeral arrangements are not yet completed it has been decided that burial will be net Monday. The time of the service will be announced later.
