    • ATKINS, Va. Violet Virginia Lowe Atwell, age 92, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at the Smyth County Community Hospital. Mrs. Atwell was born in Chilhowie, Va. to the late Harrington Lowe and Josie Testerman Lowe and was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Maiden Atwell; three brothers, Harrington Lowe Jr., Garland Lowe and Ernest Lowe; and a sister, Clyde Finley. She had worked at Western Auto, Singleton Auto and the Village Restaurant prior to retiring from Rural Retreat Garment Factory. Survivors include children, Franklin Perry Atwell, Eugene Dale Atwell and wife, Connie; Joann McMahan and husband, Ralph, Loretta Mercer and husband, Bobby, Sue Goff and husband, Curtis, Mildred Sprinkle and fianc‚e, Pete Wood; brothers and sisters, Ira Lee Lowe, Marshall Lowe and wife, Darlene, Earl Lowe and wife, Kathy, Archie Lowe and wife, Shirley, Fred Balthazrr, Lucille Teaster and husband, Glenn, Jean Cheney and husband, Clarence, Maxine Hamm and husband, Tommy; and Margaret Gilley; sister-in-law, Betty Lowe; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren;several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Sheryl Semola, Wendy Taylor, and Larry Hancock. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at the Bradley's Funeral Home in Marion, the Rev. Joe Powers and Pastor Mike Sage officiating. Interment will follow in McClure Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
