Vanlandi Svegdirsson, King of the Swedes was a great warrior, and went far around in different lands. He took up his winter abode in Finland with Snae the Old, and got his daughter Driva in marriage.1 He left Driva behind in the spring, and did not return after three years as he'd promised.1 He succeeded his father, and ruled over the Upsal domain.1 King of the Swedes at Uppsala, Sweden.1 He married Drífa Snjásdóttir of Finland, daughter of Snjá "the Old" of Finland.1 Vanlandi Svegdirsson, King of the Swedes died at Uppsala, Sweden. He was initially bewitched and wished to return to Finnland. His advisors, noting the witchcraft of the Finns, advised him against it. 9946 | Vernon Carper, 74, of Grayson, passed away at the Hospice Care Center in Ashland. Mr. Carper is a son of the late Ward and Leatha Meenach Carper. He was the husband of Letha Messer Carper of Grayson. Mr. Carper was a farmer and a member of the Iron Hill Church of Christ. In addition to his wife Letha, he is survived by his 3 sons, David (Rita) Carper, Wayne (Teresa) Carper and Timothy (Kathy) Carper, all of Grayson, Kentucky, his 3 daughters, Bonnie (Darrell) Blevins of Cherryville, North Carolina, Patty (Stanley) Allen of Vanceburg, Kentucky and Freda Howard (Wendell Jones) of Morehead, Kentucky; his four sisters, Audrey Stalker of Indianapolis, Indiana, Betty Preston of Chillicothe, Ohio, Opal Jordan and Darlene Smith both of Greenup County; his four brothers, Edgar Carper of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Bobby Carper of Grayson, Curt Carper and Jimmy Carper both of Carter City; his ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends. 9947 | Vernon Jordan, 76, of Grayson went to be with the Lord Saturday, December 11, 2004 in Community Hospice Center in Ashland. He was born March 22, 1928 a son of the late Joe and Cynthia Parker Jordan. He was a member of the Lower Grassy Church of Christ and a farmer. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Opal Carper Jordan. His other survivors include: Three daughters, Loretta Adams of Grayson, Donna Billups and Rosemary Smith of Greenup. One sister Tishie Newman of Grayson. 7 Grandchildren and 8 Great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. Funeral services will be conducted Monday 11:00 a.m. at the Malone Funeral Home by the minister Donald Damron. Burial will be in the Horsley Cemetery.
